A lot of people would rather die than think. Now what does this mean? When I was going through my recovery I didn’t understand this statement. My mind was always stuck in unconscious looped thought that I never really got in touch with my conscious mind. The truth is, when we start bringing out that true voice, the conscious mind, then we can start to question our sensations and negative thinking patterns. It is extremely hard to bring that conscious mind forward especially when we practiced negative thinking and anxiety for years and years. Here are 3 ways to start getting in touch with that true voice that lives within you.
1) MEDITATION: This is a daily exercise that is a MUST for Anxiety sufferers. Don’t know how to start? Find a comfortable place in your home and make it strictly for Meditation use only. Get a candle and light it every time you go and Meditate. Sit with yourself for ten minutes in silence and focus on your breathing. When I first started, I listened to guided meditations to help me learn. Here are the best Meditation apps you can download onto your phone that will help you master Meditation:
– Meditation & Relaxation: Guided Meditation (Fitness22): This app has a 7 day introductory Meditation session that is perfect for beginners. It gave me the guidance and focus I needed when starting something I had no idea I could do. This app has a soothing instructor named Carina who guides you day by day, 10 minutes per day, to get your mind more in touch with the present moment. The app also includes single sessions such as: Body Scan, Forgiveness, Sleep, Concentration, SOS Calm, Love yourself and Others, and Minimal Guidance. A MUST have app!

– Insight Timer (Insight Network Inc): This app is my favourite. After getting the basics down from the above app, this app allows you to have access to tons of free guided mediations, music, and talks. There is also a customizable timer where you can set your own music and time length of your Meditation. It also sets up your profile where it logs the days you Meditate and gives you stars the more days you have in a row which is a great motivator. My favourite Meditations on the app are by David Ji such as Devine Release and Surrender to the Silence Within. Go on and explore the app. There are lots to discover!

2) GETTING IN TOUCH WITH THE 5 SENSES: Go for a walk and start getting in touch with your 5 senses. What do you see, feel, smell, hear and taste? When you start paying attention to these things, then you are bringing your conscious mind to light! When you start bringing yourself more into the external world, then you are not so much focussed on your internal world. This is really important.
3) I REJECT THAT!: “I reject that thought,” is what I would say when a negative thought would pop up into my mind. If that thought does not fit with your new identity, then why give it any attention or emotion? You are a warrior not a victim. This also applies when you are around other people and you reject the viewpoints of others. You now have your own belief system, so when others say things or do things that don’t flow into your own beliefs, then you can say “I reject that” in your mind or out loud and stand on what YOU believe in. When you pay attention to a thought for more than 17 seconds, then you are giving it emotion. So next time you get a thought you do not want, replace it with a positive one, you have 17 seconds to do so. No pressure.
