On the road to being the best me I can be, I came across a TED talk called “The Great Porn Experiment,” where Gary Wilson goes on to talk about the negative sides to watching pornography. This sparked my interest. I went on to watch no fap Youtube videos and the benefits many people were having from cutting porn and masterbation out of their lives completely. These videos opened my eyes to a completely different issue I was dealing with since I was 15 years old.
I knew from the feedback these Youtubers had on the subject that this was another piece to the puzzle that is my anxiety recovery. So I gave it a go, and after going 100 days on no fap, I saw the results. Here I will go through the benefits of no fap and why it will help your anxiety recovery.
1) No Social Anxiety – Dopamine is a neurotransmitter seeking out rewards (giving you a high when you accomplish something). When your brain is presented with ultra high levels of dopamine (fapping), your brain tries to maintain homeostasis buy releasing the total number of dopamine receptors which then lowers our dopamine levels. With low dopamine levels comes; attention deficits, confusion, brain fog, depression, lack of motivation and social anxiety. Prolactin (hormone) has now gone through the roof in replace of the dopamine which in result causes low testosterone (low energy, and anxiety). So basically no fap = no social anxiety.
2) More Energy – After a few days without fapping, testosterone levels rise 45%. When on no fap, I experienced a lot more energy physically and spiritually. Physically, more stamina at the gym, increased muscle mass and more energy at work. Spiritually, more positive energy when engaging with others. You are not focusing your energy on sexual urges.
3) Confidence – When engaging with others on no fap, I had more confidence because I had no guilty feelings, I was proud of how far Ive come, and I was not hiding behind a mask. I can be outgoing and myself and not have that feeling of being a slave to my mind. Your brain is now re-wired and it focus’ your energy on other things in your life that interest you such as reading or watching movies.
4) Time For The Little Things – On no fap I had a lot more time to play guitar, read, look for a better job, and hang out with friends. I was enjoying the simple things in my life more. Like I said before, your energy is being spent elsewhere.
5) Self Control – I had more control over my thoughts. I stopped being a slave to it. I stopped reacting to all the emotions that came about. When you don’t give that certain emotion attention, the desire to fap, then you replace it with another thought and go about your day. So if you have a strong desire to do heroine all of a sudden should you do it? Whats the difference with fapping?
