“Why is it that every wild animal that eats meat as part of its diet doesn’t suffer from the chronic diseases that modern humans do? How can a food source that is ubiquitous throughout the animal kingdom and has been clearly eaten by humans for millions of years now suddenly be toxic to only humans while every other animal is just fine?”  – Shawn Baker

On this episode, I talk with ultramarathon runner, author, and dietitian Michelle Hurn. After battling with anorexia, depression, and physical illnesses most of her life, Michelle decided to take a radical leap into a low carb ketogenic way of eating. The results? Mental clarity, a balanced mood, a boost in energy, and an overall improvement in physical health. I talk with Michelle about her life story, why this low carb diet has such a positive outcome on people, and why we have been lied to about the negative impacts of eggs, meat, and saturated fat. Plus much, much more. Below, are just a few of the key topics discussed in this episode.

  • Michelle’s struggles with anorexia while she was growing up
  • How the treatment for her anorexia only worsened her health. Michelle talks about being fed through a tube and how the ingredients in this food only inflamed her body
  • Her starting days as a runner and how her high carbohydrate diet only caused more physical problems. Stuck in a pain cycle, she then talks about the moment she decided to go on a ketogenic (low carb) diet
  • Michelle describes her early years working as a dietitian. She noticed that the food guidelines she was required to teach patients was/is completely backwards. These foods are only making these people sicker
  • Why were we taught that meat, eggs, and butter are harmful for our health? Michelle talks about the history of this poor teaching and why we should go against everything we have been taught
  • What are the beginning steps to this keto and carnivore (meat only) diet? What foods do we need to cut out of our daily consumption to see any sort of health benefits? Michelle talks about these steps and why meat, eggs, and saturated fat in general is essential for human health

Make sure you listen to my full conversation with Michelle below.

When we provide the body with foods that were designed for human physiology, the body has a tremendous capacity to heal.” – Michelle Hurn
