“To believe in something, and not to live it, is dishonest.” – Mahatma Gandhi
On this episode, I talk about what beliefs are and why they keep you stuck in the anxiety cycle. Why does change seem so unrealistic? How can you pin point your beliefs and work to break them entirely? I answer these questions and more on this podcast episode. Below are the key points talked about in this podcast episode.
- We form our internal (unconscious) programs from the models we had growing up. Good or bad. As we surround ourselves with these models we internally process their thoughts and actions as: ‘this is what’s required to function in the world.’ We also form beliefs by the negative feedback we encounter as we move forth.
- If our functioning (view of the world) is of low resolution, we tend to believe the word of the other person without any challenge.
- We tend to cling to others who share a similar view of the world.
- Beliefs are formed by the emotional significance of your behaviour, words, and reaction to a particular situation. You are trying to function the best you can in this world. You react to the other persons information because you believe it will best serve you going forward.
- You want to subject yourself to those who challenge your current beliefs. If you don’t think change is possible, then surround yourself with those who have changed.
- When you push yourself more and more to step outside of your comfort zone and you then see change within yourself, your beliefs about ‘I can’t change’ begin to break dramatically. Almost completely.
- To clarify a belief, ask yourself: I believe what about this sensation or situation? What do I want instead?
