“Act as if what you do makes a difference. It does.” – William James
On this episode, I talk about how you can use your behaviours to break your current anxious patterns. Why do so many of us have a difficult time getting into a new healthy routine? How can you? I go over the new routines I adopted that broke me out of this anxiety loop. Below are the key points talked about in this podcast episode.
- When you begin to shift your patterns, you may feel like an imposter. This is cognitive dissonance. Feeling, thinking, and behaving in a manner you are not accustomed to.
- If you are resisting any new change ask yourself: ” are my current behaviours producing the results I want?” No? Then isn’t any change to your routine necessary?
- Act as if. Have a model to help guide you out of the problem. The more you surround yourself with empowering people (those who solved the problem you have) the more you will act and think like them. The natural desire to imitate will come forth.
- If Bilbo Baggins stayed in the Shire he would never have been the warrior he became. He returned from that great adventure into the unknown a more self actualized person. Capable of much more than he originally thought. Wouldn’t it have been a tragedy if he continued to stay a shire dweller? Many people leave so much at the door and fail to break outside of their comfort zone. But it is there where you find the limitless potential of your being.
