“Most people want to avoid pain, and discipline is usually painful.” – John C. Maxwell
On part 1 of this podcast series, I talk about discipline and why this is necessary for anxiety recovery. What is discipline? Why is this important? What are some disciplines that you need to adopt? Below, are the key points discussed in this episode.
- A cable is strong, sturdy, reliable. Composed of many small wires wrapped together. Each wire is as important as the next. The foundation of someone (the cable) who is mentally and physically tough is made up of many micro disciplines (wires).
- The foundation of an anxiety sufferer is built upon sand. Many unrealized micro actions that are toxic, weak, and support a dependent personality. The more you practice toxic behaviours, the more you believe that this is who you are. That you need them or it is what’s required to cope and function in life.
- By sacrificing instant gratification now, the future you could benefit in many ways. Better physical and mental health.
- To be independent is to be disciplined. Are you dependent on things like: toxic relationships, high carb junk foods, negative friends, porn use, or Netflix binging?
- Start your day off with something that challenges you. A routine. This builds momentum and sets you up for what’s ahead today. The challenges. It is ALWAYS better to prep for the dragon encounter rather than it surprising you and swallowing you whole.
- Living without structure is chaos. Dis-order. Order requires discipline. Do you want to live day by day floating in uncertainly? That is what constitutes an anxiety disorder. Being stuck in the unknown all day everyday. Build a strong foundation. Micro disciplines construct someone who is healthy mentally and physically.
