“Nothing has such power to broaden the mind as the ability to investigate systematically and truly all that comes under thy observation in life.” – Marcus Aurelius
On this episode, I go in-depth on my journey from childhood anxiety to my full out anxiety disorder in my 20’s. Throughout this podcast, I provide my view on the education system and how it impacted my life in a negative way, as well as the bad habits I adopted that fuelled my anxiety to the extreme.
As children, our brains are like sponges absorbing every bit of information around us including our parents and/or influencers beliefs. These beliefs get so engrained within us, whether its good or bad, that when we are older, we still let these beliefs run our lives even without our conscious awareness. We must change these limiting beliefs within us that keep us stuck in a rut, similar to updating the apps on our phone. I was still listening to that old 10-year-old voice within me far into my 20’s without questioning or using rational thinking to combat it. I was stuck with old out-dated apps. These fearful and limiting thoughts were holding me back from living a free and fulfilling life. I became so emotionally drained and so tired of living a sensitized life, being a slave to my limiting beliefs and negative thoughts, that I finally said no more, and took responsibility for my anxiety disorder.
I fell in-love with the change process when I became a student of myself and my anxiety. After many months of using dozens of techniques to change my old anxious thinking patterns, and creating many new empowering habits that fuelled my whole new identity, I decided to become a influencer and role model for others who still continue to suffer from anxiety. I became certified in CBT, RIC, and NLP practices and started a blog that soon became the go-to resource for others who are confused and bewildered about their anxiety disorders.
The battle with your own mind is the greatest battle you will ever have to face. Once you do overcome an anxiety disorder, you will be able to face anything that comes your way in a more calm and rational manor. I am so grateful for the experiences I had because I eventually created a whole new powerful me that I never thought was possible. I spent so many years doubting myself and my abilities to be successful in life, that it kept me in a procrastinating cycle keeping my limiting identity alive. I now live anxiety free, except if a saber-toothed cat is running in my direction , and I continue to push myself in all areas that are unfamiliar to me.
Your project, is to become a student of yourself and your anxiety. Then things will begin to change and then you will open up to new possibilities in the world around you. Remember, do not let your anxiety define who you are.
