“The Carnivore Diet is a much more extreme ketogenic diet. When people cut carbohydrates from their diet, it places the body into a state of ketosis. This is why the Carnivore Diet could potentially help individuals improve their athletic performance, lose weight, and improve mental clarity.” – Dr. Paul Saladino
On this episode, I talk about my 4 year journey on the keto and carnivore diet. I want to discuss how it changed my physical and mental health for the better and what this way of eating entails. My goal of this episode is to inspire you to look into this way of eating and to question your current way of eating. I also provide great resources at the end of this episode. Below, are the key points talked about in this podcast episode.
- The ketogenic diet is a low carb (50g total carbs a day) high fat diet where the body burns fat instead of glucose for fuel. I first stumbled upon this way of eating from a podcast featuring Dr. Jordan Peterson. He said that an all meat diet helped cure him of his many autoimmune problems. His physical health greatly improved as well as his cognitive performance.
- Blown away from this discovery, I decided to give this diet a try. So I started to eat eggs and bacon for breakfast and steak and veggies for dinner. I noticed within the first two weeks that I was feeling more energized and clear minded.
- My whole life I was struggling from continuous mood swings, lack of energy, and foggy mind. My goal of this diet was to get to a more mentally clear state as well as improve my general health. This diet did just that. The more I reduced my total net carbs a day, the better I felt.
- For optimal health and to start this diet journey, begin by cutting out: sugar, grains, and vegetable oils. Remember, a proper human diet is whole 1 ingredient foods. Not crackers, chips, cookies, and pies.
- What I currently eat in a day is: eggs and bacon for breakfast (usually with black tea) and steak, chicken, beef liver, lamb, or fish for dinner. Then I will incorporate an electrolyte drink in there somewhere. My diet is currently an all meat diet with little to no carbohydrates.
- The way I feel is worth the sacrifice of all those delicious carb rich sugary foods like cake, pizza, pasta, and donuts.
